Anatoly Aksakov, the head of Russia’s State Duma Banking Committee, has called for a ban on the Telegram game Hamster Kombat, deeming it a potential scam. Aksakov criticized the tap-to-earn game, arguing it manipulates players’ minds and preys on those seeking quick wealth with minimal effort.
In a recent interview, Aksakov compared Hamster Kombat’s tactics to fraudulent schemes, noting that the game’s additional tasks promising higher earnings and faster progression are typical of scams. He assured that the State Duma will address the issue.
“Such things must be stopped. In my opinion, this is clearly a scam. Manipulation and use of the psychology of citizens. Especially those who do not really want to work, but dream that they can play with a minimum of effort and get rich,” Aksakov told local media.
Hamster Kombat, which launched on Telegram in March, is a crypto-based tap-to-earn game that distributes virtual HMSTR tokens as TON-based digital assets. However, market analyst Toghrul Aliyev has warned that HMSTR tokens might face significant volatility if trading begins, with initial sell orders possibly causing a sharp drop in price.
Aksakov’s comments underscore a growing concern about the financial impact of such games on the public. He noted that people have become increasingly susceptible to external influences, leading to potentially harmful outcomes.
As Russian lawmakers prepare to tackle these issues, the future of Hamster Kombat hangs in the balance. The government will scrutinize any game linked to potential fraud and its effect on users.
