Today, Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) held its highly anticipated 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. It was a big day for students, schools, and parents across Nigeria, as crucial decisions were made regarding this year’s admissions into tertiary institutions.
Here’s a breakdown of everything that went down:
✅ Official Cut-Off Marks for 2025 Admissions
JAMB, in collaboration with key education stakeholders, approved the following national minimum cut-off marks:
Universities – 150
Polytechnics and Colleges of Education – 100
Colleges of Nursing Sciences – 140
👉 Please note: Institutions still have the right to set their own (higher) cut-off marks, but they cannot go below these national minimums.
📣 JAMB Announces 2025 Top Scorers
The top performers in the 2025 UTME were celebrated today. All three students scored above 370 out of 400!
1. Okeke Chinedu Christian (Anambra) – 375
Wants to study Mechanical Engineering at UNILAG
2. Ayuba Simon-Peter John (Gombe) – 374
Applied to Afe Babalola University (ABUAD)
3. Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka (Kwara) – 373
Also chose UNILAG, same course: Mechanical Engineering
It’s impressive to see that all top scorers are aiming for Mechanical Engineering, showing its strong demand.
📌 Federal Government Sets Admission Age to 16
The Minister of Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, made it clear today that 16 years is the minimum age for admission into any Nigerian tertiary institution.
Any student below this age will not be considered eligible. Institutions caught admitting underage candidates will face serious consequences.
🎓 Most Chosen Universities in 2025
JAMB also revealed the most sought-after universities this year:
Lagos State University (LASU)
University of Lagos (UNILAG)
University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)
These schools recorded the highest number of applications in the 2025 UTME cycle.
