Residents of Amaewhule, Obio, and Akpor joined together in a solidarity march to support Wike in his political endeavors.
At the time of this report, protesters had gathered at the Rumueme Civic Center in Port Harcourt, led by prominent figures including Ogundu Chinda, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and former Council Chairman George Ariolu. They fervently demand that the Inspector General of Police maintain control over the councils and resist any attempts at intimidation.
The solidarity march along Ikwerre road has caused a major traffic jam, underscoring the intensity of their support for Wike amid escalating political tensions in Rivers State. Just days ago, IPO community women blockaded the Port Harcourt airport, stranding passengers—a stark illustration of the deepening crisis.
Addressing the assembled crowd, Ariolu passionately declared their unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the state.
"As the governor rightly said, no sacrifice is too great for peace. But true peace cannot exist without justice. Governance must be guided by the rule of law, not by personal discretion or impunity. Rivers State is known for upholding law and order, and we firmly stand behind the Nigerian police's efforts. The Inspector General, under President Tinubu's leadership, has the authority to restore peace to Rivers State, especially in the face of provocative actions that threaten law and order.
Therefore, we urge the Inspector General and his team to continue their commendable efforts in maintaining peace and order. Let us all abide by the rule of law, and let public officials understand that adherence to laws and regulations is non-negotiable. Today, as we peacefully march through our local government, we aim to engage our community, demonstrating our resolute support for peace and order."
